As
photography goes, this picture is horrible. But I'm choosing it for my 52 weeks
photo project since it shows a HUGE breakthrough in Holly's ability to travel on
long trips in the car anxiety-free.
Well okay, she’s not exactly ‘anxiety-free’
since she can’t relax enough to sleep (and probably never will) but she will
lie down, and stay lying down, for much of the ride. And this is important right
now while she’s healing from her knee surgery. I am so happy that I was able to
buy a car that has enough room for her crate…I’m a firm believer in securing my
dog while driving, both for her safety and for mine.

How cozy! Glad to see that Holly has decided to kick back and let you worry about the driving.
Hey Liz! With all that she worries about, you'd think she doesn't trust my driving or something ;)
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I can sympathize on the car anxiety thing :( But it looks like things are going pretty stable for her! Was there something recently that you've tried that has made the difference for her?
I've been a long time lurker on your blog and finally just started one of my own...so thanks for stopping by MY blog :) I read a lot of Vito's anxieties as a result, you've helped me with Holly's. Thanks!
Sadly the primary thing that made a significant change in the car was the loss of my Casey. Holly's more relaxed now that she's not around. But crating, the thundershirt and a decreasing dose of Xanax is working well to manage what's left of her travel anxiety.
That's great you found the right combination for her. I know many dogs where any one of those 3 things helps immensely, but sadly none were right for Vito. Thankfully there are a lot of drugs to try :)
